The two curves that decide your trip
Every Super Bowl trip is two purchases racing each other, and most fans play both wrong.
Hotels climb. Host-city hotels set Super Bowl-week rates high the moment the calendar flips, and the market tightens in waves. A slow burn through the season, then a violent squeeze in late January when the conference championships tell two fan bases they’re going. Everything usable near the stadium gets swept in days. There is no late dip worth waiting for in the good pockets.
Tickets fall. Recently, anyway. At Super Bowl LX in February 2026, SeatGeek had the average resale price at $9,913 in late January, the second most expensive Super Bowl on record at the time. Then the market did what it’s done repeatedly in recent years. It slid into game week, with the cheapest get-in dropping from about $5,800 to roughly $3,800 across marketplaces in the final days. Thousands of dollars of movement, downward, after most fans had already panic-bought.
So the order of operations writes itself: lock the refundable room at today’s price, and let the ticket market come to you in February. Run it backwards, ticket first and hotel last, and you pay the peak of both curves.
Why LA rewards early hotel movers anyway
Here’s the nuance that makes LA different from a Phoenix or a New Orleans: the region never actually sells out. When SoFi hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022, roughly 150,000 visitors hit the market and occupancy still landed around the 80s-percent range. Greater Los Angeles simply has too many rooms to exhaust. You will find a bed in February 2027 no matter what.
What you won’t find late is a well-placed bed at a defensible price. SoFi has no hotel district. Inglewood’s own inventory is a handful of properties that go first and price like it. The real supply sits in rings: the LAX corridor (the biggest concentration of rooms anywhere near the stadium), El Segundo and the South Bay (the corridor’s upgrade, and the area that sold out months ahead in 2022), and downtown LA (deepest inventory, and where the week’s public events historically cluster; the 2022 Super Bowl Experience ran at the LA Convention Center). The month-by-month timeline
Now, July 2026. Book the refundable room. LAX corridor or El Segundo if the game is the point; downtown if you want the full week of events. Rates are as close to baseline as they’ll ever be, and a flexible booking costs nothing to abandon if your team craters. This is also the moment for contenders’ fans to skim the refundable-rate playbook; the same option logic runs this whole timeline.
September–November. The NFL season sorts itself. Re-shop your booking once around midseason: if you find better placement for the same money, trade up and cancel the original. Nothing about the market is urgent yet. This is the free-adjustment window.
December. Playoff seeding comes into focus and the first demand wave arrives: neutral fans, corporate blocks, and media lock in. The South Bay pattern from 2022 says the best-located mid-priced properties start disappearing around now. Your July booking is starting to look smart.
Late January 2027, the squeeze. Conference championship Sunday creates two traveling fan bases overnight, and everything near Inglewood gets swept within days. If you’re a fan of a finalist and you’re not already holding a room, this is the worst week of the whole timeline to start shopping. It’s also exactly when most fans start shopping.
Early February, ticket time. Now, and only now, work the ticket market. Recent history says patience inside game week has been rewarded: LX’s slide from $5,800 get-ins to about $3,800, and similar late drops in prior years. No guarantees, since a monster matchup can hold prices up. But the direction of the risk favors waiting, which is the mirror image of the hotel bet. Decide your walk-away number and let the sellers sweat.
February 14: game day, and dinner. One more wrinkle no other Super Bowl has had lately: it’s Valentine’s Day. That’s romance-weekend demand stacked on football demand at every nice hotel and restaurant in the basin. If the trip doubles as the holiday, and a Super Bowl in LA is a strong play romantically, book the Sunday-night or Monday dinner reservation weeks out. “We’ll find somewhere after the game” is not a plan 100,000 other people haven’t also made.
The all-in math, honestly
Reporting around Super Bowl LX put the full trip of flights, hotel, and ticket at roughly $6,500 to $26,000 per person depending on how you play it. The ticket is the monster line; everything in this timeline is about not paying peak on the other lines too. And there’s a legitimate no-ticket version of this trip. Super Bowl week in the host city is a full slate of fan events, most of them downtown and cheap or free, capped by watching the game loudly among your people.
