The College Football Playoff National Championship comes to Las Vegas for the first time on Monday, January 25, 2027, kicking at 4:30 p.m. local (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN) at Allegiant Stadium. It is the latest date a title game has ever been played, the first in Nevada, and, for traveling fans, the most forgiving championship logistics in the event’s history. Every previous host city has rationed a limited room supply between two fanbases and the sport’s entire corporate apparatus. Las Vegas has roughly 150,000 hotel rooms, more within two miles of the stadium than any host ever. Late bookers aren’t doomed here. They just pay more than they had to.

Ten days’ notice, and why this market forgives it

The two finalists emerge from the semifinals: the Orange Bowl on January 14 and the Sugar Bowl on January 15. The matchup locks the night of the 15th, ten days before kickoff, the shortest confirmed window of the whole playoff.

In any other host city that would be the whole story: two fanbases, ten days, one squeezed market. Vegas changes the math because supply is so deep that event pricing, not sellout, is the failure mode. What actually happens when the matchup locks is that resort revenue teams tier the rates up and close out the cheap rooms first; the beds are there, the deals aren’t. So the fan playbook is the same refundable-early logic as the rest of the playoff, with a gentler penalty for missing it: hold a refundable south-Strip room while your team is still alive, ideally by New Year’s, and rebook or cancel as the semifinals resolve.

Two Vegas-specific rate mechanics to plan around. First, resort fees: nearly every Strip property quotes a nightly fee on top of the room rate, so compare total cost, not headline rate. Second, the weekly rhythm: Friday and Saturday are the peak-priced nights in this city, and the game is Monday. Championship weekend’s Saturday, with Fan Central open and both fanbases in town, will be the expensive night. Sunday and Monday, the nights nearest the actual game, usually cost less. An arrive-Sunday, depart-Tuesday itinerary skips the premium and still catches Media Day weekend’s back half.

Where to stay

South Strip (the answer). Mandalay Bay and Luxor anchor the corner of the Strip nearest the stadium, and the Hacienda Avenue pedestrian bridge crosses I-15 from there to Allegiant’s doorstep, about 15 minutes on foot. For a championship crowd, that walk is worth repeating plainly: you can leave a title game with 65,000 people and be at your hotel pool bar before the parking lots finish emptying. Excalibur, New York-New York, and the rest of the south-Strip cluster extend the same logic a few minutes at a time.

Mid-Strip (the classic trip). Center-Strip resorts put you in the thick of the restaurants and shows, a 10-15 minute ride from the stadium. Fine choice; just solve the post-game return before kickoff, because the ride back Monday night is the one moment this market behaves badly.

Downtown and Fremont Street (the value tier). Fifteen to twenty minutes north, meaningfully cheaper, with its own bar scene. The right call for budget crews who’d rather spend the difference on tickets.

Off-Strip and Henderson (the group backstop). Chain hotels and casino-locals properties a short drive out, plus the rental market covered below. Rates here barely notice even a championship.

Getting there

Fly into Harry Reid International (LAS). The airport sits about ten minutes from the south Strip; for many fans the whole airport-to-hotel-to-stadium footprint of this trip fits inside three miles. Ten days’ notice on flights is the real pinch point, not rooms; LAS is well-served, but two fanbases plus a normal Vegas weekend will fill the cheap seats fast. Book flights the night of January 15.

The drive-in case. If either finalist is from the Southwest, the I-15 corridor from Southern California is a four-hour drive and Vegas absorbs that caravan every weekend of its life. Hotel parking is the one cost to check; many resorts charge for it.

Game night. Walk if you’re south Strip. Otherwise, rideshare drops at designated stadium zones with the surge you’d expect on the return, or the RTC’s game-day bus service from the Strip corridor. Allegiant’s on-site parking is limited and presold for events of this scale; do not build a plan that requires driving to the stadium.

The championship weekend, not just the game

The CFP and the host committee have announced a full four-day build-up, and it’s free-heavy. CFP Fan Central opens Friday, January 22 at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall: games, clinics, pep rallies, autograph sessions, and exhibits. Media Day runs there Saturday, January 23, with one-hour open interview sessions for each finalist that fans can watch free. Sunday, January 24 brings the Trophy Trot 5K/10K through the city and the ticketed Taste of the Championship dining event that evening, and the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live concert series stacks headline acts around the weekend. Practical consequence: this is a four-night trip masquerading as a one-game ticket, and the Friday-Saturday portion is when the city is fullest. Fans on a budget get the best of it by arriving Sunday.

Inside the stadium, the clear-bag standard applies, one clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a small clutch. Late January in Vegas is genuinely cold after dark, desert-winter cold, but the dome makes it a coat-check problem, not a game problem.

Booking strategy for this market

Refundable south-Strip hold while your team is alive, total-cost comparison including resort fees, Sunday-to-Tuesday if you’re optimizing price, Thursday-to-Tuesday if you want the full weekend. Watch the Saturday night; it’s the trap rate of the whole trip. And if the semifinals eliminate your team, cancellation costs nothing and Vegas will still be there. The vacation-rental play

Rentals are the group answer here, with a Vegas-specific twist: short-term rentals are heavily regulated inside the city and county, so supply concentrates in licensed properties and in Henderson and the southeast valley, a 15-25 minute drive from the stadium. For a crew of six splitting a house with a pool and a kitchen, the math beats three resort rooms plus three resort fees by a wide margin, and championship week doesn’t move suburban rental rates the way it moves the Strip. The trades: you’re driving or ridesharing everything, including game night, and cancellation terms are stricter than the refundable resort hold you should be sitting on until January 15. Book the rental only after the matchup locks. Airbnb carries similar valley supply and is worth the comparison for groups, though for solo travelers and couples the south-Strip walk is worth more than any rental saves.
