McCormick Square is the answer
The question Bing keeps sending people here with is where visiting WNBA teams stay in Chicago, and the useful reply starts with geography, because Wintrust Arena is not where out-of-towners assume a Chicago arena would be. It sits at 200 East Cermak Road, on the McCormick Square campus beside McCormick Place, the largest convention center in the country, about two and a half miles south of the Loop. The Sky have played here since the building opened in 2017. There is no team-hotel list to give you, here or anywhere on this site; teams keep travel details quiet for player security, and the properties rotate. What’s public is the pattern, and in Chicago the pattern is unusually simple: everyone’s real options sit in two clusters.
The first cluster is the campus itself. Marriott Marquis Chicago (1,205 rooms) and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (1,258 rooms) connect to the arena and the convention center by pedestrian skybridges. That’s roughly 2,400 rooms from which you can reach your seat without going outside, which matters in a city where a June game and a September playoff date come with very different weather. The second cluster is everything north: the South Loop hotels along Michigan Avenue at a 10-to-15-minute walk, then the Loop’s deep inventory a short ride up the Green Line. Team side or fan side, that’s the whole map.
As for the teams: since May 2024 every WNBA club has flown full-season Delta charters, and stops are one game, in the day before, out after. Chicago owns the league’s best exception. The Sky-Fever trip to Indianapolis is short enough that it has gone by charter bus instead of a plane, one of only a couple of city pairs in the league where that’s true. The convention calendar outranks the schedule
Here’s the thing this page can tell you that a rate-comparison site can’t. At most WNBA arenas, the game is what moves hotel prices. At Wintrust, it almost never is. The arena holds 10,387 people, many of them locals, and it shares a campus with 2,400 hotel rooms; that math doesn’t compress. What compresses is a citywide convention, which books McCormick Place months or years out, fills the two campus hotels with badge-wearers, and pushes overflow pricing into the South Loop and beyond.
So the booking rule at this arena is backwards from everywhere else in the league: don’t study the Sky’s opponent, study the convention center’s calendar. A marquee playoff date that lands in a quiet convention week is one of the cheaper big-game bookings in the WNBA, skybridge room included. An ordinary Tuesday game during a major trade show means the closest rooms were spoken for before the season schedule even existed, and your play is the Loop or Chinatown side instead. Either way, refundable is the default: rates near a convention campus move on a calendar you don’t control.
If you’re four or more, or staying several nights, the South Loop’s high-rise condo rentals are a real alternative on Vrbo, with kitchens and a straight shot down Michigan Avenue to the gate. Chicago requires short-term rentals to be registered with the city, so skip unlicensed listings, and run the math with cleaning fees against a refundable hotel rate before committing. For one or two people on a single game night, the refundable hotel wins here almost every time.
Getting in and getting out
Two L stations serve the arena and they’re both close. The Green Line’s Cermak-McCormick Place stop is two and a half blocks west, a few minutes’ ride from the Loop elevated. The Red Line’s Cermak-Chinatown stop is about half a mile west, which puts Chinatown’s late-night kitchens between you and the train, the best post-game move this building has. From O’Hare, budget the 45-minute drive or take the Blue Line downtown and transfer; from Midway, the Orange Line to Roosevelt and a Green Line hop south is the no-traffic route. Motor Row’s bars sit directly across Michigan Avenue when you’d rather not ride anywhere at all.
