What has moved is the booking picture. This guide used to tell you London shrugs at stadium events and you could afford to wait for rates to soften. London does shrug, and that part is still true. The problem is that the shrug was never the whole story for this particular weekend.

If you were planning to sort out Wembley Park accommodation later in the week, that is the sentence to reread.
I am not going to quote you a nightly rate. Rates for a specific future weekend move daily and anyone publishing a precise number for September 19 is guessing. What I will tell you is the shape: the cheap-and-central tier is gone, the stadium-adjacent tier is the tightest pocket in the city that night, and the value that remains is sitting on the tube map rather than in any neighbourhood you would recognise from a guidebook.
Think in lines, not in miles. Two Underground lines and one commuter rail route serve Wembley directly, and everything about where you sleep follows from that.
The Metropolitan line north of Baker Street is the play at this range. Baker Street is two stops from Wembley Park, and the corridor running out through Finchley Road, Wembley Park and beyond holds ordinary, unglamorous hotels that Fashion Week attendees are not fighting you for. You are 20 minutes from the stadium and 10 from Regent’s Park.
Marylebone remains the single best address for this game if you can still get it, because Chiltern puts you at Wembley Stadium station in under 10 minutes. It is also the answer everyone else worked out, so treat any refundable rate you find there as a thing to take immediately rather than compare.
The Jubilee at Kilburn, Willesden Green and West Hampstead is the budget version that still works. Direct trains to Wembley Park, direct trains into town, and rates that behave like outer London because that is what they are.
Wembley Park is worth checking despite everything above, because that arena show cuts both ways: some inventory turns over as concert plans change. If you want a zero-transit game day and a crew that never has to look at a departure board, look, but book anything you find on the spot. Expect minimum-stay rules.
South of the river and east is where the tempting mistake lives. A pretty room in Bermondsey or Bethnal Green at a fair price is a daily commuting tax across a network that will be full of other people making the same trip.
For a group of four or more, a flat has become the better play at this range specifically because it is a different inventory pool. Wembley Central, on the Bakerloo line and Overground, is a 15-minute walk and the decompression valve when Wembley Park peaks.
Do not drive. Matchday parking is restricted, an event-day protective zone covers the surrounding streets, and post-game surge plus road closures make a car the slowest way out of Wembley. Everyone here rides the trains, including people who own cars.
For TfL closures, there is nothing to check yet. Transport for London publishes weekend engineering works about a week ahead, so the Jubilee and Metropolitan picture for September 19 will not exist until mid-September. Check it the Monday of game week.
Do the morning as a tourist.
