This is the final year of East Lake as permanent home: from 2028 the TOUR Championship becomes a two-week match-play event split across two rotating venues, with 2028 dates and courses to be announced February 22, 2027. No 2027 gate times, parking plan or ticket on-sale date published yet. The International Woodworking Fair, which compressed downtown Atlanta during the 2026 tournament, is biennial and will not be in the city in August 2027. Book refundable first. A cancellable rate lets you drop the room if the bracket, the schedule or your plans change, and rebook if a better rate shows up.

Scottie Scheffler won it on Sunday, August 30. He started the final round three shots behind Viktor Hovland, went out and shot 4-under 66, and closed at 16-under 264 for a three-shot win. Hovland, who had led after 36 and 54 holes on the back of a putter that made everything for three days, shot 72 and made nothing. Ryan Gerard was third. Scheffler collected the $10 million winner’s share of a $40 million purse and joined Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players with more than one FedExCup.
The storms that dominated the forecast all week landed once. Friday’s second round was suspended at 5:15 p.m. ET for dangerous weather, officials cleared every spectator off the golf course, and play restarted at 6:50. That was the extent of it. The weekend was clean and Sunday finished on schedule.
So there is nothing here left to book. Atlanta’s tournament-week inventory has already released and the rate curve has flattened back out. If you landed on this page looking for a room for this year, you are a week late, and the rest of this page is about the two things worth knowing instead: when the next one is, and why the one after that will not look anything like it.
East Lake again. The PGA Tour put out its 2027 schedule on August 26, 2026, and the Tour Championship holds the week of August 23-29, with competitive rounds Thursday August 26 through Sunday August 29. The two events that feed it are the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, August 12-15, and the BMW Championship at Liberty National in Jersey City, August 19-22. Same funnel as always. Top 70 after the regular season, 30 to Atlanta.
What is not published, and this matters if you are the type who plans early: the daily gate times, the practice-round date, the parking arrangement, the shuttle plan, ticket prices, or an on-sale date. Wednesday August 25 is the practice day if the Tour follows its usual pattern, but the Tour has not said so and we are not going to pretend it has.
Tickets are the first domino. The tournament’s own ticket page flipped over within about a day of Scheffler lifting the trophy, and it has not moved since: re-checked on October 8, 2026, tourchampionship.com/tickets carries no prices, no round dates and no on-sale announcement, just a “be the first to know when tickets go on sale” email capture for 2027. On-sale for an August tournament typically comes months ahead of the week hotels start pricing as an event, which means ticket-holders get to shop Atlanta rooms while the rate is still an ordinary late-August rate.
2027 is the end of an era at East Lake, and it is worth understanding what replaces it before you plan any future trip around this event.
The club first hosted in 1998 and has been the permanent home since 2004. That arrangement expires after 2027. From 2028 the Tour Championship stops being one 72-hole stroke-play tournament at one course and becomes a two-week match-play postseason at two different venues.
The format, as the Tour described it on August 25: week one is a group stage of 32 players, eight groups of four, each player facing the other three across three days, with the top two out of every group advancing. Week two takes those 16 into head-to-head match play over four days at a second course, and the two players still unbeaten meet on the last day for the title. Getting into the 32 runs through a Championship Series Finale, a 72-hole stroke-play event for the top 90 on the season points list.
Where all of that gets played is genuinely open. The Tour has said it will announce 2028 dates and both venues on February 22, 2027, in a live broadcast from its headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach. East Lake has not been ruled out; Rolapp has said the club is still in the consideration set. ESPN’s reporting on the short list has centered on Pine Valley, Cypress Point and Seminole, which are three of the hardest tickets in American golf and, between them, own approximately zero hotel rooms. If you are the kind of fan who follows the finale wherever it goes, February 22 is the date that tells you which city to start watching. Put it in the calendar. We will rewrite this page that week.
This part does not expire, so it is worth keeping in your head for 2027.
East Lake Golf Club sits at 2575 Alston Drive, inside a neighborhood of bungalows and front porches on Atlanta’s east side, with a charter school across from the clubhouse. There is no hotel tower anywhere near it. Nobody sleeps at this course. Every lodging decision here is really a commute decision, and the commute is short by American sports standards, which is what makes East Lake an easy tournament to travel to.
Decatur is the shortest run and the thinnest supply. A real walkable downtown square, restaurants and breweries you would go to anyway, roughly ten minutes to the course, and the Blue Line runs through it so you can have a drink at dinner and still make the first tee. The catch is permanent: there are not many hotel rooms in Decatur. In an event week it goes first.
Midtown is the default. Densest walkable hotel district in the city, Piedmont Park and the Fox Theatre, and 15 to 20 minutes to East Lake by car outside rush hour. Supply is deep enough that something is usually available late. It also absorbs convention overflow from downtown, so in a week with a big show at the Georgia World Congress Center, Midtown prices like downtown.
Buckhead is the arbitrage when downtown is compressed. Normally the district you pay up for, it sits far enough from the convention footprint that it can flip cheaper than Midtown in exactly the weeks you would expect it to be expensive. It is the longest haul of the real options at 25 to 35 minutes, and that number depends entirely on the Downtown Connector. Price it before assuming Midtown wins.
Downtown is calendar-dependent. In a quiet convention week it is fine and well-connected. In a busy one it is the most expensive bed in the city for the worst reason. Check what the GWCC is holding before you book it.
Airport is a bookend, not a base. Cheapest reliable supply in metro Atlanta and MARTA runs straight from inside the domestic terminal, but East Lake is a cross-town haul. Good for a late arrival or an early flight out. Not somewhere to spend four days.
Groups of four or more should price a whole-home rental before anything else. Kirkwood, East Atlanta Village and Oakhurst are almost entirely residential, which means the lodging that genuinely is near the course exists as Vrbo and Airbnb listings rather than hotels. Anything advertising walking distance to East Lake is a house. Two things to weigh. Cleaning fees and the service cut land hard on a two or three night stay, so compare the all-in total against a refundable hotel rate instead of the nightly headline. And rental cancellation windows are stiffer than a refundable room, which matters in a city where an August afternoon thunderstorm is not a surprise.
The structural facts hold year to year, even though the tournament republishes its transport plan every summer.
There is no on-site spectator parking and there never is. In 2026 general parking moved to Lakewood Amphitheatre with air-conditioned shuttles, replacing the Georgia World Congress Center and Summerhill arrangement used before, which killed the walkable downtown shuttle stop. Whether that repeats in 2027 is not published. Do not trust any parking advice for this tournament that was written for a previous year, including ours; check the official site once the Tour posts it.
Rideshare is the default and the Tour builds a dedicated drop zone with its own spectator gate. The thing to plan around is not the ride in, it is the ride out, when a residential street grid takes thousands of simultaneous requests at once and the queue stretches past half an hour. Leave a couple of groups early or settle in somewhere with a drink and let it clear.
MARTA gets you close and not all the way. East Lake station at 2260 College Avenue is the nearest rail stop on the Blue Line, about a mile from the club and not a walk anyone enjoys in August humidity. Buses 2, 34 and 123 connect there. Ride in from Midtown or downtown, take the last leg on a bus or a short rideshare hop, and you have skipped both the Connector and the surge. Check MARTA’s alerts the morning of, because event-week street closures reroute buses.
Driving into the neighborhood itself is not an option. Residential permit enforcement is real and those streets were never built to hold spectator cars.
One lesson worth carrying forward, and it is not about golf.
The thing that squeezed Atlanta hotel rates during 2026 tournament week was the International Woodworking Fair, which held the Georgia World Congress Center August 25-28 and expected roughly 26,500 woodworking professionals alongside more than 900 exhibitors. Thirty players and a Thursday gallery do not move a city of Atlanta’s hotel supply. Twenty-six thousand buyers with badges do. Downtown and Midtown were compression nights Tuesday through Thursday for reasons that had nothing to do with East Lake, and they eased on Friday when that show packed up.
That show is biennial and runs in even years. Its next Atlanta edition is 2028, so it will not be in town in August 2027. The organizers have launched a separate odd-year event, IWF West, which debuts at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio on August 25-27, 2027. So the show that caused the 2026 squeeze will be in Texas during the 2027 tournament. A convention calendar a year out is still filling in, so pull up the GWCC’s own event listing again once you hold tickets rather than trusting this paragraph. But the known big one is gone, and that is the single most useful thing to know about booking the 2027 tournament week.
The general rule this illustrates is the one that actually governs Atlanta. This is a big city with deep hotel supply and a golf tournament with a 30-man field. The event alone rarely compresses the market. What compresses it is the convention calendar landing on the same days, so before you book any Atlanta trip, check what the GWCC is holding that week. Atlanta’s genuinely brutal hotel weeks come from football and conventions rather than golf: the Georgia-Florida game moving to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 31, 2026 is a harder booking week than the Tour Championship has ever been, and the World Cup semifinal here in July taught the same lesson about short-notice demand.
Nothing on hotels. There is no version of booking an Atlanta room twelve months out that saves you money, and there is nothing to protect against yet.
Two things instead. Put your email on the Tour Championship ticket list so you hear about the 2027 on-sale, because that is the moment the trip becomes real and it comes well before the hotel market notices. And mark February 22, 2027, which is when the Tour says it will name the 2028 dates and venues. If East Lake keeps a spot in the new rotation, this page stays useful.
