Wisconsin was a three-touchdown underdog and spent a half looking like the number was wrong, trailing 13-10 at the break with Colton Joseph making a decent case in his first start. Then he threw one to the outside in the third quarter, DJ McKinney took it 55 yards the other way, and the rest was 28-3.
CJ Carr finished 19 of 29 for 211 yards. Joseph put up 217 and a 28-yard touchdown to Malachi Coleman. Mason Posa made 15 tackles, Sean West hit a 70-yard punt, and Wisconsin held Notre Dame to 3-for-9 on third down, which is the kind of stat line you cite when the scoreboard has stopped cooperating.

Every preview called this an 81,000-seat sellout. We called it that, in this file, on Sunday morning. It ended about 5,500 seats short, and it also finished under the 77,823 who watched Wisconsin beat LSU here in 2016, so the record college crowd at Lambeau is still ten years old.
The resale market had been telling anyone watching for three weeks. Here is the get-in price we logged, one line per check:
That is a 66% collapse in twenty-two days, in a market where the only supply was two schools’ allotments because there was never a public on-sale. Nobody who waited lost. Everybody who bought in August paid roughly three times the closing price.
The lesson generalizes past this game, which is why it’s worth writing down. A neutral-site college game at an NFL stadium gets sold on the capacity of the building rather than on the demand of the two fanbases. Lambeau’s capacity is a Packers number, built on a season-ticket waiting list that runs generations deep. Notre Dame and Wisconsin were filling it once, on a Sunday, on a holiday weekend, with no local team playing. That is a different proposition, and the ticket market figured it out in mid-August while the previews were still saying sellout.
Hotels are the opposite case, and the contrast is the whole point of this page.
The rooms compressed exactly as advertised. Local reporting had the average Green Bay night running $296 for a three-star property and $393 for a four-star across the weekend, against a projected $15 to $20 million impact on Brown County. Downtown never even reached the open market. Saint Brendan’s Inn, all 28 rooms, went to a single Notre Dame group of 67 that booked three years out, roughly $21,000 of business. Event USA, which packages Lambeau weekends as hotel-plus-ticket bundles, had four properties on its board for this game in August and had pulled the game from its site entirely by the final week. Packagers hold blocks a year ahead. When a board clears, it means the inventory behind it went first.
So: tickets fell 66% while rooms held their full compression premium. That isn’t a contradiction, it’s a supply story. Brown County’s hotel stock is small and fixed and doesn’t grow for one Sunday. A resale ticket market can be dumped into at will. If you are booking any future Lambeau event, that asymmetry is the single most useful thing this weekend produced. Book the room early and refundable. Buy the ticket late.
The Travel Wisconsin Frozen Tundra Faceoff, Saturday, February 20, 2027. A college hockey doubleheader on a rink built on the field: Ohio State at Wisconsin in the women’s game, Michigan at Wisconsin in the men’s. It’s the first hockey at Lambeau since the 2006 Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic, when Wisconsin beat Ohio State 4-2 in front of a crowd that set the college hockey attendance record at the time.
Presale registration opened Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. The general on-sale opened Friday, September 11. The Packers still hadn’t published puck drop times, broadcast channels or prices as of that morning, so if you need a specific start time before you book a flight, wait for it. Everything else about this event is now purchasable.
This is a genuinely different hotel problem from the one this page used to describe. It’s one Saturday, not a three-night football pilgrimage, and February in Green Bay has no competing demand: the Packers’ season is finished by then and nothing else fills Brown County in the middle of winter. Revenue managers, the people who set nightly rates, price against a comp set of what the same night looked like last year, and last February in Green Bay was quiet. Expect a compression night rather than a compression weekend, expect two-night minimum-stay controls to appear on the closest properties, and expect the corridor to open back up on the Friday and Sunday either side.
The timing matters more than usual, because the ticket on-sale has just landed. Every on-sale converts a pile of maybes into people who now need a bed, and they book in the days right after. Green Bay’s hotel stock does not care that the event is five months out; it cares that a few thousand buyers just got confirmation emails. Five months is an absurdly early booking horizon for a one-night hockey game. It is also, in this specific market on this specific week, the cheapest the room will be.
The sequence for February is ticket first, room second, and the ticket date is four days from this rewrite. Do not book a February room against a start time nobody has published yet.
Packers home games. Nine of them this season at Lambeau, starting with the home opener against Atlanta on Thursday, September 24 at 7:15 p.m. on Prime Video. Chicago comes in Sunday, October 11 at 3:25 on Fox; Dallas on Sunday, October 18 at 7:20 on NBC; Carolina on Thursday, October 29 at 7:15. A Packers Sunday is the market this venue was built around and it behaves differently from a neutral-site one-off, mostly because the visiting fanbase is smaller and the locals drive home.
The geography that made this weekend work is the same geography that’ll make February work, so it carries over cleanly.
Green Bay proper is a small market, and downtown is the part that goes first for anything at Lambeau. It sells out on emotion for football weekends. For a one-night February event it’s the right target and it’s realistically gettable if you move at the on-sale rather than after it.
Appleton is about 30 minutes down I-41, has its own airport, and has a walkable downtown of its own. It’s the standard overflow answer and it was the honest answer for the Notre Dame weekend once Green Bay closed out. Oshkosh is another 20 minutes past Appleton and usually cheaper still. Both are fine winter drives on an interstate that gets plowed early because it’s the spine of the Fox Valley.
Milwaukee is under two hours south with a real hotel market and real restaurants. It only makes sense if you’re driving through anyway, which for a Chicago-based fan you are.
Rental houses are the underrated play in this specific market and the one that beat hotels outright for the Notre Dame game. Vrbo lists more than 400 properties near the stadium and Airbnb covers the same blocks. Lambeau sits in a residential neighborhood, not a downtown core, so the houses nearest the gates are actual houses within walking distance. For four or more people this wins on price and wins by more on logistics, because nobody drives and nobody waits for a rideshare in February. Watch cancellation terms: rental cancellation windows are typically stricter and longer than a refundable hotel rate, so if the hockey start times could change your plans, the hotel’s flexibility is worth the difference.
This was the second and last game of the announced Notre Dame-Wisconsin series, after Soldier Field in 2021. It was originally set for 2020 and COVID pushed it six years. Nothing follows it on either schedule.
Notre Dame now leads 10-6-2 across 18 meetings. Before 2021 these teams had not played since 1964, and Wisconsin’s last win in the series was in 1963.
Notre Dame’s next announced neutral-site game is Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on October 9, 2027, scheduled under its ACC agreement. No 2027 Shamrock Series host has been announced, and until one is, any hotel page quoting you a 2027 Shamrock Series city is guessing.
