The pairing is the only real demand event. Reported tie-ins match the rebuilt Pac-12 with the Mountain West, subject to final confirmation, and that’s a distinctly drivable pool: San Diego State’s own fan base is local, and candidate schools in Arizona, Nevada, and up the California coast are all within a tank of gas. The matchup lands with the full bowl slate on Selection Sunday, December 6, and if a close-in fan base draws the game, Mission Valley’s closest hotels take the hit within a couple of days. Mission Valley is the practical base, a dense corridor of mid-priced hotels along Hotel Circle and the valley floor, some within walking distance of the stadium and most within a couple of Trolley stops. In December this is one of the best hotel values in California.
