The Myrtle Beach Bowl is a December bargain wearing a summer destination’s name. The 2026 game, the seventh edition, is Monday, December 21, 2026 at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN, played 15 miles inland at Brooks Stadium in Conway, on the teal turf Coastal Carolina made famous. The trip, though, is priced by the Grand Strand’s hotel market, and the week before Christmas is the single softest stretch of that market’s year. Sun Belt, MAC, and Conference USA fans get an oceanfront weekend for less than a normal road game.

The off-season math

Myrtle Beach runs on roughly 14 miles of oceanfront hotel towers built for summer families. In the week before Christmas, that inventory sits mostly empty, and the pricing shows it: this is when the Grand Strand’s resorts post their lowest rates of the year, and a few thousand traveling bowl fans don’t come close to changing that. There’s no compression story here, no revenue manager watching the Selection Day announcement. You can book late and still do well.

Here, the reason to book early isn’t price protection, it’s picking the exact oceanfront property you want, since a chunk of the beach’s supply closes or runs skeleton operations in winter. The big year-round resorts stay open; some smaller motels don’t.

Where to stay

Oceanfront Myrtle Beach. The obvious answer and the right one. Stay on the beach, in one of the year-round towers near Broadway at the Beach or the boardwalk, and commute to the game. You’ll pay off-season rates for an ocean view and be 25 to 30 minutes from the stadium up US-501.

North Myrtle Beach and Barefoot Landing. Quieter, a similar drive to Conway on Highway 22, and popular with golf groups, because December on the Grand Strand is prime value season for golf too. If your bowl trip has a tee time in it, base here.

Conway itself. A small historic river town with a walkable downtown along the Waccamaw and only a handful of rooms. Staying here means a two-minute game-day drive and zero beach. It suits the fan who’s genuinely here for football and wants to be near campus; everyone else should take the ocean.

Vacation rentals are arguably the headline lodging play at this bowl. The Grand Strand has one of the largest beach-condo rental inventories on the East Coast, and in late December whole oceanfront two-bedrooms list for less than a single mid-tier hotel room in most bowl cities. For families and golf crews staying three or four nights, it’s not close. Check two things before booking: that the building’s amenities are actually open in winter, since some towers shutter pools and restaurants, and the cancellation terms, which are stiffer than the refundable hotel rates this market offers cheaply anyway.

Getting there and game day

Myrtle Beach International sits just off the south end of the Strand, 25 minutes from Conway, but its route map thins in winter, when many of the seasonal leisure routes pause. Check it first; if the nonstops don’t work, Charleston is about two hours south and Wilmington 90 minutes north. In practice this is a drive-in bowl, and the Sun Belt and Conference USA fanbases it draws are mostly within a day’s reach by car.

Game day is simple. Brooks Stadium sits on Coastal’s campus off US-501 with straightforward event parking, and the only traffic consideration is that everyone commutes the same road from the beach at the same hour. For an 11 a.m. kickoff, leave the Strand by 9:15 and you’re comfortable. The stadium is open-air and about 21,000 seats, small enough that the concourse lines stay human. Late December on the coast typically means 50s and sun, but a morning kickoff starts cold; layers beat bravado.

After the game ends mid-afternoon, you have the rarest thing in bowl travel: a whole free day attached to a beach. Winter on the Grand Strand is seafood joints without waits, empty sand, and cheap golf. Monday night dinner at Murrells Inlet’s MarshWalk, 25 minutes south, is the local’s answer.

The booking window

Matchups land around Selection Day, Sunday, December 6, 2026, fifteen days out. Book flights then if you’re flying, since winter route schedules into Myrtle Beach are the scarce resource. The room can wait, but don’t overthink it: pick a year-round oceanfront property, book refundable, and put the savings toward an extra night. This is the one bowl trip on the calendar where the hotel market is entirely on your side.
