Where to stay, in the order it sells out

Downtown Annapolis (small, perfect, first to go). The historic district’s inns and boutique hotels put you among the brick streets, the State House, and the City Dock waterfront, with the stadium a 20–25 minute walk away. Between Christmas and New Year’s, Annapolis is dressed for the holidays and full of Midshipmen home on leave; it’s one of the best bowl-town atmospheres in the country precisely because it isn’t a big city. If the matchup includes your team, book here within 48 hours of December 6 or accept the next rung down.

The Route 50 corridor (the practical rung). Chain hotels cluster along the highway west of town, around the mall and Riva Road, 10–15 minutes from the stadium. No charm, full function, and rooms survive longer here.

Baltimore or DC (the day-trip rung). Both are about 45 minutes out for a 2 p.m. Monday kickoff — trivial timing. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is the closer and cheaper of the two; downtown DC makes sense if you’re building a capital-holidays trip around the game. Between the holidays, both cities’ business hotels sit half-empty and price accordingly.

Getting in

BWI is the airport: about 30 minutes northwest of Annapolis, big enough for nonstops from every ACC and American market. DCA works at 45–60 minutes. No rail reaches Annapolis, so it’s a rental car or rideshare from either — and if you’re staying downtown, a car you’ll then barely use, since the whole historic district plus the stadium walk operates on foot.

Annapolis’s rental market is small but unusually good: historic-district homes and, across Spa Creek, the maritime neighborhood of Eastport, where a waterfront house puts a family a 25–35 minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the stadium. For groups, a rental frequently beats stacking rooms in the limited inn inventory — and during holiday week, a house with a kitchen in a town this pretty is its own argument. Supply is shallow enough that the good listings go before the hotels do, so apply the same December 6 urgency, and hold refundable until the matchup makes the trip real.
