The Frisco Football Classic is the first half of a December doubleheader nobody else in bowl season can offer: two bowl games in the same building, eight days apart. This one kicks off Tuesday, December 15 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN inside the Ford Center at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ 12,000-seat indoor stadium north of Dallas. The Frisco Bowl follows on December 23. Same gates, same parking garages, same hotels.
The name has history here. Frisco first ran a Football Classic in 2021 as a bonus bowl, and the December 15 slot carries on the game that replaced the Bahamas Bowl, played in 2025 as the Xbox Bowl. The 2026-27 schedule brings the Classic name back. Whoever ends up on the field, it’ll be a Group of Five at-large pairing, announced around Selection Day on December 6.
Toyota Stadium, Frisco’s usual bowl home, is torn up. The city council approved a $182 million renovation in September 2024, with construction running toward 2028, so Frisco’s bowls moved indoors to the Ford Center at The Star starting in 2025. For a fan, the trade is almost all upside. The Star is the Cowboys’ world headquarters and practice facility, wrapped in a walkable district of restaurants and bars built exactly for this. And a 12,000-seat indoor stadium in mid-December means you can leave the parka at home. North Texas can throw 70 degrees or an ice storm at you in the same week; inside, neither matters.
The small capacity cuts the other way on tickets. Twelve thousand seats is a fraction of a normal bowl building, so if your team lands here, buy when allocations open rather than gambling on walk-up.
At The Star (walk to the gates). The Omni Frisco sits directly on the complex, close enough that the stadium is effectively your hotel amenity. It’s the obvious first call and the first thing to sell out once the matchup drops. The district around it holds the pregame scene, so staying here means the whole trip happens on foot.
Legacy West and the Highway 121 corridor (the depth). A mile or two south, the Legacy West development in Plano and the strip of hotels along the Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn Tollway carry the bulk of the area’s supply. It’s nearly all built since 2015, priced for corporate travel, and a Tuesday night in mid-December is not corporate travel season. This is where the value sits, five to ten minutes from the gates by car.
Dallas proper (only if Frisco is half the trip). Downtown Dallas is 30 to 40 minutes south with no rail connection to Frisco. Stay there if you want big-city nightlife around the game; otherwise the commute buys you nothing Frisco doesn’t already have.
Vacation rentals are a fair group play here, with a caveat. Frisco and Plano list plenty of suburban houses, and for a family or a crew of five they beat two hotel rooms on price. But this is a one-night bowl for most travelers, and rental cleaning fees eat the savings on single-night stays. For one night, take a refundable hotel room. For a longer DFW holiday trip with the bowl bolted on, the house wins.
Fly DFW. It’s 25 to 30 minutes from The Star and has the route depth to get you home two weeks before Christmas without drama. Love Field is a comparable drive for Southwest flyers. From either, you’re driving; no train reaches Frisco, and rideshares from the airports run reliably.
Around the stadium, parking lives in the garages and lots of The Star district. An 8 p.m. local weeknight kickoff means you’re arriving against the tail of rush hour on the tollways, so pad the drive by 20 minutes. Postgame is painless by bowl standards, since a 12,000-person crowd clears a parking structure faster than a 60,000-person crowd clears a stadium ring.
The mechanics are the same as every non-CFP bowl, compressed. Matchups are set around Selection Day, Sunday, December 6, 2026. Fanbases that travel decide within about 48 hours, and that’s when the closest rooms go. The saver here is Frisco’s supply: this is one of the newest, deepest suburban hotel markets in the country, and a Tuesday night in mid-December is a soft night for it. Rooms at The Star itself will compress once the pairing is out; rooms a mile away mostly won’t.
So book in two moves. Hold a refundable room near The Star now if you know you’re going regardless of matchup. Then, on December 6, either keep it or trade down to a Legacy West rate once you see what the market’s doing. DFW International is about 25 to 30 minutes southwest of The Star and has by far the most routes. Dallas Love Field is a similar drive and works well for Southwest flyers. There's no rail to Frisco, so plan on a rental car or rideshares either way.
Bowl matchups firm up around CFP Selection Day, Sunday, December 6, 2026. That leaves nine days to book. Frisco's hotel supply is deep enough that you won't get shut out, but the walkable rooms at The Star go first.
