Same stadium that hosted a game at holiday-peak pricing four days earlier, same city, but the calendar has flipped: January 2 sits just past the moment Orlando’s Christmas-week rate spike breaks. You get a New Year’s-caliber matchup, SEC vs. Big Ten, at the front edge of Orlando’s soft season.

Where to stay

Downtown Orlando. The adult answer in a theme-park town. The blocks around Lake Eola and Church Street hold Orlando’s actual urban core: a real bar scene, good restaurants, and a hotel cluster (Marriott Orlando Downtown, Aloft, Crowne Plaza and more) within about two miles of Camping World Stadium. Ten minutes to the gates, zero contact with I-4’s tourist corridor. For a fan whose trip is the game, this is it.

I-Drive and Lake Buena Vista. The family answer. If the bowl is your excuse for a parks trip, stay where the parks supply is, 20-25 minutes southwest of the stadium. The week after New Year’s is one of the smartest times of the entire year to do this: holiday crowds evaporate almost overnight, and both resort rates and vacation-rental prices drop with them. Rental supply in this corridor is among the largest in America, and a house with a pool for six in early January often costs less than one deluxe resort room did the week before.

The stadium’s own neighborhood. Camping World sits in West Lakes, a residential area with essentially no hotel stock. Don’t hunt for beds next to the gates; they aren’t there. Downtown is the close base.

Getting to the game

No transit worth planning around serves Camping World Stadium, so it’s a drive-or-rideshare building. Official lots surround the stadium and sell in advance; downtown garages plus a short rideshare hop work as the overflow plan. Pre-book either way. The noon kickoff compresses the arrival window into mid-morning, and this stadium’s second big crowd in four days means the neighborhood cash-lot ecosystem will be picked over. Flying in, MCO is roughly 25 minutes out; with a noon game, arrive January 1, not game-day morning.

One scheduling quirk worth knowing: this is Camping World Stadium’s second bowl of the week, after the Pop-Tarts Bowl on December 29, and Orlando’s third of the season counting the Cure Bowl. The stadium operation is fully warmed up by the time the Citrus kicks; the city barely blinks.

Booking mechanics

The pairing lands on Selection Sunday, December 6, and the Citrus draws from the top of the non-playoff pool: traditionally the best available SEC and Big Ten teams, both of which travel in force. Expect the familiar 48-hour rush on downtown rooms after the reveal.

But the market mechanics here favor patience more than most bowls. Orlando holds one of the largest hotel inventories in the world, and the January 2 date means revenue managers are managing the post-holiday demand cliff, not a compression night; occupancy pressure falls away fast in early January. Downtown’s limited walkable-to-nothing-but-good-bars cluster can still tighten after the announcement, so the refundable-early play remains the right one: hold a downtown room now, confirm on December 6, cancel free if your team lands elsewhere. The parks-corridor version of the trip can be booked far later without pain.

The Cheez-It sponsorship era has ended and the 2026-27 schedules list the game as simply the Citrus Bowl, but the slot is the same one it has held for decades: New Year’s weekend, noon, ABC.
