Carter Stadium, and the bowl now swings back to its pre-Christmas home, Wednesday, December 23, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, same TCU campus stadium in Fort Worth. Tie-ins run through the American, the Big 12, and, when the schedules align, the service academies that give this bowl its name and its best atmosphere.
When Army, Navy, or Air Force draws the bid, and all three have played here multiple times, this stops being a standard December exhibition. Even in years without an academy, the military framing is the event’s spine, and Fort Worth, with its deep military heritage and a naval air station across town, is the right host for it.
For travelers, the academy scenario is also the hotel scenario worth respecting: academy fanbases mobilize like no Group of Five crowd, and the December 23 date means they’re combining the trip with Christmas travel. Downtown and Sundance Square. Fort Worth’s compact downtown is one of the most pleasant in Texas: the Sundance Square blocks pack restaurants, bars, and a dense hotel cluster into a walkable grid, 10 minutes from the stadium by car. DFW International sits about 30 minutes northeast, and Fort Worth has the transit link Arlington’s stadiums famously lack: TEXRail commuter trains run from DFW’s Terminal B into downtown Fort Worth in about an hour, making a carless trip viable if you’re staying downtown and ridesharing to the game. Love Field works for Southwest at a similar drive. Driving in from the west and south is the other big share of this crowd; I-20 and I-35W deliver you nearly to campus.
